Day of the Dead Murals V.
The Murals of Jalatlaco
Continuing east on Hidalgo we soon come to this building and a mural new this year...in fact it was not here two weeks ago. It is unsigned and has a nice homespun quality.
The style is once again the print makers style...in reverse...marks are made on the flat surface that create images all related in an overall design. In this mural the marks on the ground include several local motifs and or words...mezcal...tacos…bottles and shot glasses. In the event that you missed it, many of these murals suggest that on the Day of the Dead there is much drinking and partying.
I like this mural. It is unapologetically decorative. In consideration of its format, available space, it is rather small, it is intimate, it has a limited palette, it is well executed, and it is very successful.
