Yes, Virginia, there are folk art signs as well. Seems in the Jalatlaco area everyone wants a painted store front or a mural and either from consideration of cost or because someone in the family “paints” that someone gets the job. It’s interesting to me to observe how someone with little aptitude can mimic what he “knows” is required of a painted work but somehow fails to present to us what a mastery of the craft contains. In speaking with some painters I have been astounded to learn that they are satisfied they have completed a thoroughly professional work. Well, sometimes those works do have their charm.
