Day of the Dead Murals IX

The Murals of Jalatlaco

A short walk to the corner of Curtirudias and Aldma and we enter Aldama where the street narrows to one lane of traffic, one lane of parking and one narrow lane for pedestrians. Fortunately it was rebuilt a few years ago and while it references the river stone streets of Jalalaco it is flatter and much easier on the feet ..and ankles!

There are several murals on this block but as the street is so narrow and the murals so large they are difficult to both see and to photograph.

This mural appeared last year. It is painted on a dashed stucco wall and what caught my eye is that the skull is painted with silver metalic paint which, as you pass by, glitteres in the sunnlight. Unfortunately a still photogragh does not capture the glittering movement.

This says The Legend of Jalatlaco. I don’t know to what that makes reference.

I like the controlled runs in the bouquet of marigolds. And I especially like the multiple lines outlining the hummingbird. This is a drawing technique much overused in art schools to represent movement. It was a drawing technique much used by Cezanne It is well used here.

There are several signatures here but I have not been able to find any information for the artists.
